Puppies again.

So, we’ve got three new puppies at our house.  Here’s their story (as much as I know and I’ll ever know):

swaddled puppy

swaddled puppy

Their mama was a pregnant stray that was hanging around someone’s home.  They let her live in their garage and there she had 7 puppies.  Then, when they were 6 weeks old, she “ran away” and “got hit by a car” and died.  So, no mama.  H.E.L.P. split up the group and we got three of them.  They are really small for 7 weeks so they look like they’ll be around 40 lbs. when full grown.  They seem well socialized to people, not afraid and in fact very willing to follow and interact.  So the original family did a lot right.  Thank you to them, whoever they are.

But they all have a weird and very scabby thing going on with their skin.  I gave them all baths and tried my best to scrape the scabs off with a flea comb but it was really difficult.  It is really strange, I haven’t seen anything quite like it before.  The vet said that it might be “ringworm” and that if it is I shouldn’t worry about trying not to get it because I likely already have it.  Yikes.  But then he said that he believed it was unlikely going to be ringworm.  So I bathed them all and they all screamed bloody murder.  Then I swaddled them in big towels and laid them in my son’s arms with a space heater on them all.  They all promptly fell asleep – except Ryan.  Then I cut all their toe nails and re-combed the one with the worse scabs and fed them.  They are really quiet in their room now.  Probably pee is everywhere.

They have little short ears and fluffy fur.  The little black male has a blue spot on his tongue!  Maybe some Chow in them?  I’ll have to do some research to see what other breeds have blue spots on the tongue.  There’s one yellow female and one really fluffy black female.  They are so cute.  It is nice to have puppies again and to have so few!  What an easy time this well be – if they all turn out to be healthy…

Pictures of Lily

Here is a note with cute photos of Lily (from Chloe‘s group):

She finally had hair long enough that when she got her nails clipped they gave her little bows..

Chloe is making progress

This is the best news of all. I am so happy for Chloe.

Hi Kristin,

Just wanted to update you on Chloe’s progress!  What a wonderful dog!!!! 🙂

She has made a complete recovery from her past!!!!!  My parents can leave her in the house alone for more than 4 hours.  They use a tape recorder when they are gone to see if she is pacing or stressed.  She doesn’t seem to be because she doesn’t whine any more, and you can’t hear her at all. I think she sleeps or sits in the window waiting for them to return.  Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and plan to get
her adjusted, and your part in making this dog happy again.

Koda update and story

A note on Koda (another of Chole‘s group)…

Koda likes the snow

Koda likes the snow

Hi Everyone!

Thanks for the update RJ! We are so glad she’s doing well! It is nice to hear from you!

Koda is doing fine. He absolutely loves the snow!! The first little bit of snow we had, it took him 5 minutes to leave the deck he was so busy trying to lick it all up. He is amazed by it (endless ice cubes!). He loves to run after and catch snowballs. He just really enjoys the cold weather!

We are still having a problem with him playing a little too rough at times. I had an issue I had to deal with at my son’s school. Koda jumped up for a toy and his tooth caught Matt’s elbow. Innocently, Matt went to the school nurse to get a band-aid and proceeded to get interrogated about “the dog bite”. The school nurse apologized but by state law she had to report this to Will Co. Needless to say…I was very upset! I had to bring Koda in to his vet to be examined for rabies, even though he had his shots. Thankfully, he did not have to be quarantined! I am afraid though that he now has “a record” and we have to be very careful that he doesnt even play bite anyone.
So, advice to everyone……..do not tell your school nurse you were bit by your dog!

Other than that…he is just having fun being a big puppy!! We are still working on perfecting some manners and listening skills but for the most part he is doing great! I hope to be able to get him to play with his siblings again sometime soon.

Update on Jubilee

Here is a note from RJ on Jubilee (from Chloe‘s litter):

Jubilee playtimeHi everyone!!

Well it’s been a little while so I figured I would give an update. Jubilee is doing great!! She is down to half a steroid pill a day and if she continues to do well she should be done sometime in March. Jubilee has rejoined playtime (Yeah!!) and still continues to play nice with everyone. I wouldn’t have figured that a short haired dog would love the snow as much as she does. She will just run, jump, and dig as much as she can till her feet get cold. Then will run up to door to be let in and as soon as her feet are warm she will ask to go right back out. It’s just great to have her back to her old(young) self again and being the puppy she should be.

Jubilee at playI look forward to seeing you guys at the Water-bowl when you can make it 🙂 and would love to read some updates on Jubilee’s family.

Take Care
RJ
