Another wonderful party
Chloe’s family reunion was a hit – again! What fun we all had even in the sweltering 90 degree heat. We just put out a huge bucket of water for the dogs, gave the kids those extra large squirt guns and all sat in what shade we could find. Again, I am convinced the dogs all remembered one another. At a gathering of dogs who do not know each other there is much more sniffing and posturing; they are all trying to figure out what sort of rank they will fall into. Not this group – they literally met each other at a full speed run, joined up nose to nose, and ran on together with only a few nose nudges and happy pants. It was one of those sights that makes you feel good – like your own heart is out there running fast with them. Very good time. More photos will be up shortly…
Beef & bacon birthday cupcakes!

Taste testing beef & bacon cupcakes!
Tomorrow is the 1 year birthday party for Chloe’s puppies. They turned one at the end of April but this is the first day where all members of her family could attend. I made cupcakes for the party and then taste tested them. All three of my dogs LOVED them and scarfed them down in seconds. My son insisted on trying one and also loved it for a few bites. Then he got a piece of bacon in one and it sort of grossed him out and he stopped eating them. That was fine by me because they aren’t the healthiest things on the planet.
Here’s the recipe I used. I originally found a recipe online, but I didn’t follow it. I have a disease – I cannot follow a recipe for the life of me. I always change it. So, here is what I did:
Cream together until light and fluffy:
1 1/3 cups of butter
7 eggs
8 small baby food jars of beef and broth (the most disgusting thing I’ve ever seen!)
Then add to this one pound of bacon, fried until crisp. I added the bacon cut into small pieces and the fat that came out as they fried. Mix well, then I add:
1 Tbs baking powder
3 cups of white flour (or enough to make a smooth cake batter)
And mix well again. Put in greased muffin cups and bake for about 25 minutes at 325 degrees. Made 16 cup cakes.
For the frosting I put a med. sized tub of large curd 4% milk fat cottage cheese and one 8 oz block of cream cheese in my Cuisinart and blended until smooth. I decorated with dog food to spell out:
“Happy 1st. Birthday!”
If you decide to make these, please let me know how they turned out!! Enjoy!
Chloe family reunion coming May 23
Looks like all of Chloe’s offspring will be coming back for a birthday reunion – all are now one year old! The party will be Sunday May 23 with photos and video here shortly thereafter… hope the weather cooperates.
New photos of Indy
Here is a note with new photos of Indy (formerly Sweet William of Chloe’s litter):
Here are the latest photos of Indy. He’s grown into quite a big boy, about 85 pounds.
He’s a great dog, loves to play tug-of-war, loves stuffed animals (steals them from my kids all the time) and loves ice cubes. He comes running to the fridge every time he hears the ice dispenser. Can’t complain, he’s definitely a keeper!
Here is what Indy did to an “Indestructible Pig” in 15 minutes. My daughter threw the pig in his crate, we ran to the store for about 15 minutes and returned to the gutted pig. Poor Piggy! Good thing he just likes to rip out the stuffing and not eat it. He’s been doing great outside of the crate. He sleeps on his dog bed at the foot of our bed every night and we’ve been leaving him out when we go on short trips. He hasn’t destroyed anything yet. So, hopefully we’ll be able to get rid of the crate soon.
Pictures of Lily
Here is a note with cute photos of Lily (from Chloe’s group):
She finally had hair long enough that when she got her nails clipped they gave her little bows..
Chloe is making progress
This is the best news of all. I am so happy for Chloe.
Hi Kristin,
Just wanted to update you on Chloe’s progress! What a wonderful dog!!!!

She has made a complete recovery from her past!!!!! My parents can leave her in the house alone for more than 4 hours. They use a tape recorder when they are gone to see if she is pacing or stressed. She doesn’t seem to be because she doesn’t whine any more, and you can’t hear her at all. I think she sleeps or sits in the window waiting for them to return. Anyway, thanks for the encouragement and plan to get
her adjusted, and your part in making this dog happy again.-R
Koda update and story
A note on Koda (another of Chole’s group)…
Hi Everyone!
Thanks for the update RJ! We are so glad she’s doing well! It is nice to hear from you!
Koda is doing fine. He absolutely loves the snow!! The first little bit of snow we had, it took him 5 minutes to leave the deck he was so busy trying to lick it all up. He is amazed by it (endless ice cubes!). He loves to run after and catch snowballs. He just really enjoys the cold weather!
We are still having a problem with him playing a little too rough at times. I had an issue I had to deal with at my son’s school. Koda jumped up for a toy and his tooth caught Matt’s elbow. Innocently, Matt went to the school nurse to get a band-aid and proceeded to get interrogated about “the dog bite”. The school nurse apologized but by state law she had to report this to Will Co. Needless to say…I was very upset! I had to bring Koda in to his vet to be examined for rabies, even though he had his shots. Thankfully, he did not have to be quarantined! I am afraid though that he now has “a record” and we have to be very careful that he doesnt even play bite anyone.
So, advice to everyone……..do not tell your school nurse you were bit by your dog!Other than that…he is just having fun being a big puppy!! We are still working on perfecting some manners and listening skills but for the most part he is doing great! I hope to be able to get him to play with his siblings again sometime soon.
