An Update on Bauer

Bauer at 8 weeksWe have an update with photos and two videos from Bauer (formerly Annie’s pup “Donner”) and his forever family. As always we appreciate any puppy updates from adoptive families – keep sending them to us and we’ll keep posting them for all to see!

Today Bauer made a trip to the vet. He was happy in his crate on the way to the vet, and even more happy as I hooked up his leash and let him hop out of my car…but as soon as we got to the front door it was as though his puppy radar sensed this was a place where he didn’t really want to be. I had to pick him up and carry him in, but once we got in there he was fine. He won over the staff with his sweet personality, and even went so far as to show off all of his tricks for them…..he “sits”, lies

“down”, and gives “paw”. He also showed them how he plays fetch and returns with the object thrown. Needless to say, he’s been able to make friends wherever we go! The vet said that Bauer looks healthy and alert, …and is growing at rapid speed! He’s already at 15.4 pounds… I knew he was getting bigger because he can’t curl up on my lap like he did last week, but the realization definitely set in once I read the scale….and to think, I was worried he wasn’t eating enough!

He’s doing well walking on a leash, and seems to handle this chilly weather fairly well! I’m always the first one to call it quits….he handles it better than I do! We’ve started morning walks…..to go around the block at a decent pace once takes about half an hour (in all fairness to Bauer, it is a decent size block!). Today while we were walking he found a patch of grass where the snow had melted. His reaction to the grass was quite humorous, as he has mostly known snow, carpet, and concrete. He spent about 5 minutes tapping the spot of grass with his paw, and then dove into the snow….I’m sure he’ll grow to love the grass come this spring/summer, but it looks as though we’ve acquired ourselves a snow puppy!

He’s been doing well with meeting other dogs as well. He met a 12 week old lab, and I had to laugh when Bauer tried to show his dominance and take down the lab……primarily because Bauer was about half the size of him at the time! He also has become acquainted with our friends’ Cairn terrier, Lucky. She’s 18 months old and quite vocal, white startled our quiet little guy, but I defended her once I saw Bauer trying to mount her from behind…yes, at 9 weeks old. I thought I was mistaken at first, until he tried it again… who knew they started at such a young age!!! 🙂

I’ve attached some pictures for you, and two short videos as well. He’s doing well in our home, and we’re so happy to have him here! He’s doing pretty well with the crate training (or better known as his “bed”)… the first night we put him in it he cried for about an hour before I gave in and slept in front of his crate….now I can sleep upstairs in bed, and he only cries for about 5 minutes…..baby steps! We’re still working on the potty training, but he’s been doing pretty well here too. He has his accidents every now and then, but as I keep telling Josh, he is only 9 weeks old!!!

Thank you again for letting us bring Bauer to our home….We’ll keep you posted
